VLOG
Germany is country #23 out of 26 for my 26 for 26 birthday trip! I ended up spending my actual birthday, here in Germany. I have always wanted to visit Germany and it was already so close to where I started my trip. Munich was just a short one hour flight from Luxembourg, and my flight was only $30! I traveled here alone but ended up meeting one of my sweet friends that I have known since middle school here! He moved here with his job in the military and was so kind to show me around the city. You can see more of that above in my YouTube vlog! In this post I am going to give you a nice guide to Munich and tell you the best things to see, do, and try during your stay. :)
Where I Stayed
I stayed at the Adina Apartment Hotel Munich which was AMAZING. The room was spacious and even had its own washer and dryer machine, which was a God-send for me on this trip!! The view from my room was stunning and the breakfast was the best part. This hotel has a mimosa bar, pretzels with different cheeses, breads, fruit, omelettes, and more. Click on my YouTube video to see the full room tour! You can book your stay at Adina Hotel here.
Things to Do in Munich
Munich is rich in German culture and history and there are plenty of things to do and see. There is quite too many to even list, but I am going to share some of the top things to do here!
1. Visit Some of Bavaria's Best Biergartens
I knew that German's liked their beer, but I really underestimated how much, and how often they drink!! I saw people drinking liters of beer at all times of the day- even at breakfast. After doing a little bit of research, I found out that Germans on average drink 106 liters of beer per person every year.
Here is a list I compiled of best Biergartens to visit in Munich: â 2. Try German Food
Isn't the whole point of travel to eat? I mean, at least it is for me. One of my favorite things in the world, if not my favorite thing in the world, is to try new foods around the world. German food is nothing short of delicious! Here are some traditional German dishes to try:
3. Walk Around the Marienplatz
Marienplatz is the central square in Munich, where you can find all of the gorgeous buildings followed by streets lined with shopping, restaurants, museums & more. What is really cool about Marienplatz is that is has been the city's main square since 1158. Marienplatz is also famous for the Glockenspiel, that chimes every day at 11:00 am on the Neues Rathaus (you can see it happen here on my YouTube Vlog). The Glockenspiel re-enacts stories from the 16th century, which you can read all about here.
St. Peters Church is also visible from Marienplatz.
4. Enjoy a Picnic in the English Gardens
Eating and drinking in the park is a big part of German culture, with the English Gardens being the most popular picnic spot in Munich! The English Gardens have been around since 1789.
The Residenz
The Residenz is fairly walkable from Marienplatz, and is the former Royal Palace of Bavaria. The Munich Residence served as the seat of government and residence of the Bavarian dukes, electors and kings from 1508 to 1918. During World War II much of it was destroyed, but it has now been reconstructed. You can walk inside, and tour the museums that are now at the Residenz.
6. Nymphenburg Palace
Nymphenburg Palace was absolutely stunning. It is definitely one of the most beautiful places I have seen. You can even take gondola rides in the palace park during the summer months! Not only did I go here to get a pic for the gram, but also the history is so awesome. Nymphenburg Palace (âSchloss Nymphenburgâ) and its famous Park have been the summer residence of the Bavarian Kings for almost 300 years. Even today, the head of the Wittelsbach family, Franz von Bayern, still lives in one of the wings of the imposing castle. You can read more about the history here.

8. Visit the beautiful churches in Germany
The famous Frauenkirche, a 15th Century church that is a prominent landmark of Munich.
